TRYOUTS + Blue Chip Jr NBA Week 6

Local and Travel team tryouts soon!

BCE will be holding tryouts in the next few weeks to add players to the current player pool for grades 5-8th and 9-12th.

BCE currently has A and D league teams in 7,8,11,12th. All teams currently have potential spots available for incoming players who have the skill and drive to compete and evaluate for a position on an A or D-league squad.

We have a few new players at various skill levels in the player pool in 5,6,9,10th. So we are looking to form totally new squads in these grades.

Explanation of the player pool structure

We have or are working toward a player pool of 16 players per grade. A pool that can consist of players of intermediate to advanced basketball skill sets. We practice and evaluate them with an average of 8 gym skill practice sessions a month (more during in-season months and less during off-season) and we add some outdoor activities for conditioning and any extra work needed. Our goal is to create an environment for BCE players to develop into players that have a strong general skill set and conceptual understanding to fit into any basketball system at the middle/high/college level.

The academy player pool system is a European model of player development which may be a bit foreign to some Americans but has proven to be a much more motivating and dynamic environment for players to compete for position causing them to work on their skills and conditioning vs working in a small squad environment.

As BCE players develop overall basketball skills and concepts, based on their evaluation rank, we form squads for seasonal activity (Academy games/tournaments, outside rec and comp leagues, local and regional tournaments.)

To be included in the player pool for potential invites to activities and have the ability to participate in practice plans at a discount and get additional player support benefits. A player has to maintain skill evaluation high enough to rank into the current player pool AND maintain a $25/mo BCE player pool membership.

Pool players participating in the Elite practice plan (average of 8 gym skill practices/month) pay $100 which is $100 less than per practice ticketed players coming in for skill work. If a player drops out of a practice plan to play an official school sport like HS football/baseball/basketball they can get back on the practice plan without a reinitiation fee. A player that drops out of the practice plan for any other reason would pay a $50 reinitiation fee to get back on the practice plan. Current Pool player members unable to participate in the normal practice plan can get single practice tickets with their BCE 20% discount off the normal single skill session ticket.

So any current fully active BCE player will invest $125/mo to participate and then will pay any fees required for initiation, uniforms, leagues, tournaments, activities that they are invited to and accept.

Blue Chip Jr NBA Week 2

Another awesome set of games for week 2! We had lots of close and competitive games. We have 44 teams playing this season and divisions are pretty even, but we still need to make adjustments in the U12/U13/U14 divisions to 3 teams. So schedules in those divisions will change again this week.

Our goal is to be as even as possible at the beginning of the season, which is difficult to do when we have a mix of recreational, academy and preformed teams. Even more difficult when 180 players sign up within 3 days of registration close or late then only 60 players show up for evaluation.

As we attempt to transition to a development academy & separate competitive league we need to develop ongoing evaluations on players who expect to continue playing basketball. This is one of the components that will help us form our decisions moving into subsequent seasons and how to create teams and divisions based on what we have to work with until we can reach the goal of developing a greater love of basketball in the community and an environment that helps competitive players develop the skills and connections to be able to compete and win at upper level tournaments.

Blue Chip Jr NBA Week 1

Awesome week 1 games! Players look great in their Blue Chip uniforms. We had lots of close and competitive games. A few minor adjustments need to be made in the U12 & U13 Divisions, so schedules may change slightly but other than that it looks like it is going to be a very competitive season.

We had great sportsmanship shown all weekend, but a reminder as the season progresses and we all ride the emotional roller coaster of youth sports competition that we all remain aware of our conduct and work to ensure we are creating the best environment possible for our youth players to flourish.

In the rare event that a spectator or participant forgets or is unaware of the code of conduct, that we strive to abide by, based on the degree of violation, they may be verbally warned or removed. The code of conduct violator may be given a hard-copy of the code to review then sign if they want immediate re-admittance to the event. Any further violations are documented and reviewed by a disciplinary board and subsequently a temporary or permanent suspension may be enforced .

A general youth sports rule is the “48 hour rule” Any potentially negative feedback or criticism that is to be made is not to be addressed for at least 48 hours and once emotions have subsided and the facts are reviewed then that is the time to have a productive discussion of what adjustments, corrections or feedback need to be made
