GotNEXT UPDATE!

Currently, the 8-10pm slot this Thursday is secured by 7-8th grade does not turn 15 by Sept 1st division. The 6-8 slot is still waiting to be taken. We have a 5-6th grade not older than 13 by Sept 1st team in and some players looking for a team. So High Schoolers or another set of Middle Schoolers could jump in and grab it so spread the word. Lots of people have sent us messages saying they are going to pull up, but it’s based on who completes registration first.

CONGRATS! 18U Champions – The Warriors

There were a ton of barn burners in 18U division this year and playoff weekend was no exception. Sunday was amazing and The Warriors played back to back and were able to outlast the FC Rattlers to win the trophy. This is a great group players that we enjoyed watching and developing over the years and it is bittersweet to see so many of our 18U players now moving on to College and their adult lives. Good luck to you all and we hope to see some of you back as coaches in the league soon! Check out their exciting championship game below.

Coach Farewell

It was an emotional weekend as we had to say goodbye to one of our long time coaches Todd Mullins and his wife Cami and sons Brody and Champ. Blue Chip would not be on the path it is without the passion that Coach Todd poured into these players. Wish Todd well as he moves back to his hometown in Indiana to take care of his elderly father and we hope that we will see him back on our courts coaching at some time in the future.

We will miss you!!

Livestream Status

We spent most of Monday at the school working on the wifi connection and looks like they have our access working. No Guarantees, but we should finally be good to go for this weekend, so thanks for your patience!

COVID-19

We have had a very smooth process using the temp check-in and COVID tool station. Most non-participants have complied with mask-wearing in the facility. A few non-participants have decided not to wear masks or act annoyed with compliance. Please help the volunteer personnel have a pleasant time during you and your guest’s arrival. Make sure everyone has prefilled out their tool and has a mask and wears it when spectating. If you don’t feel well, stay home. Players who are not in the current game should be wearing masks. The schools monitor our activities by CCTV and our contract with them, to be able to use the facilities, requires us to follow CDC guidelines and specific procedures, so please do not be the one sour apple that ruins the batch!

Some of Coach Laettner’s Game Tape Comments

Great offensive sequence below by Blue team. Nice organization, no rush, good composure. they move the ball around with very little dribbling, they fill their spots, and end up with a give and go against a zone leading to layup. Outstanding!

Excellent zone offense below……white team makes 4 passes without the ball hitting the floor. Players are cutting (which moves the defense) and then a cut and replace to the 3pt line and an easy-open jumper is made. Very nice!

Coach Laettner Quote

“I can tell if good or bad basketball is being played without even entering a gym. While I am outside listening, if I hear more shoe squeaks than dribbling, it’s usually going to be good basketball. If I hear more dribbles than shoe squeaks, it’s almost always bad basketball.”

Games Update

Lots of exciting games for the first week with several buzzer-beaters and close games. There were some lopsided games and we are doing our best to move players where we can and adjust teams, but this is a difficult season since we had so many players and teams defer their registrations until the fall season. So please be patient with us as we make the best we can out of the situation and be glad we are able to provide the opportunity for our players to play the game.

There will be minor schedule changes due to some team adjustments for leveling and a few players transferred so make sure to check your schedules this week for any changes.

Coaches, be cognizant of the fact that this season there is more mixing of preformed and completely rec teams, so watch the sportsmanship. Against teams with less experienced players, maybe give your players roles to play that they are not used to playing so they get a more rounded experience. Stop overzealously cheering when you are up by 20+, it’s not time to run up the score, it’s just bad sportsmanship.

When we have a normal season with fully developed competitive divisions are matched up against a known competitive team or are entered into an AAU tournament then feel free to run it up and overzealously cheer if that is what you want to do although we recommend a more humble demeanor especially for Blue Chip Coaches in the certification process. 🙂

Game Videos

Click the menu in the upper right of the video to see more featured games.

We have been working on a livestream but currently have had difficulty getting a reliable wifi connection from the school. We will continue to work on it this week, but we encourage teams to film their games from the provided tripod behind the scorer’s table and then upload them to the Blue Chip game account the same day for friends and family to watch on their smart TV.

For instructions on how to do this please have a volunteer sign up as a game tape manager and we will attach the footage to the game page.

Blue Chip COVID-19 Screening Tool & Protocol

BCBA has developed a screening tool to assist our participants in helping minimize or stop the spread of COVID-19.

We ask our Staff and Volunteers to use the process established for participants in any activity and MANDATORY for all entrants for any indoor activity. Also to refer back to this page often for reference and observe any changes that may be made to the recommended protocol since they are fluid. BECAUSE WE ARE DEALING WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD WE MUST BE EXTRA DILLIGENT SO WE DONT JEOPARDIZE OUR ABILITY TO ACCESS THE GYMS.

Participants need to do their own risk/reward calculation and decide if they want to participate by asking their coach what protocol, if any, they are following and considering the fact it may be difficult to maintain compliance to recommended procedures.

Current Statistics

CDC posted rates as of 6/19 (hospitalization rate data lags so actual rate is from 6/6)
.275% 65 & older
.14% 50-64 yrs
.005% 18-49 yrs
.004% 0-17 yrs

St Johns County Statistics

Currently mandated BCBA Protocol to enter an indoor activity and suggested protocol for outdoor activity.

STEP 1

Within 1 hour of activity, the guardian gets entry approvals needed for all participants and entrants through the screening tool.

If entrant does not present approval certificate timestamped within 1 hour of activity on their phone then staff or coach will ask them to scan the QR code on the sheet below with their phone camera or to go to bluechipelite.com/covid if a sheet is not available.

Staff and Coaches should have this poster in their possession at all times during activities. Mandated for all BCE Staff

STEP 2

Entrants should be asked to wear a mask when approaching the temp taker and should wear mask at all times indoor. Once indoor during activity coaches and players are not required to wear masks. Once the activity is completed masks should be worn. After presenting an entry approval staff or coach should measure body temp with a contactless thermometer and reject entry for anyone whose temp is higher than 100.4 F.

Rejections should be asked to open the screening tool and click the “you may be sick” link at the bottom and strictly follow the CDC instructions.

Coaches should have Lysol spray or another CDC approved disinfectant and spray basketballs and equipment on breaks or at least after every hour of activity.
