Fall 2026 Registration and Facility Update
Fall registration has been delayed while Blue Chip finalizes new arrangements caused by a 94 percent increase in St. Johns County Schools community facility access costs.
We are waiting for the conclusion of the St. Johns County School District meeting to learn whether anything will be resolved regarding reasonable community facility use. We cannot wait much longer to finalize the Fall season, so Blue Chip is also preparing to move forward through private facilities and other available practice options if the schools do not accommodate reasonable community use.
Our goal remains the same: provide professionally arranged games, strong player-development opportunities, and practical options that allow as many local families as possible to participate.
Each session will normally include approximately half skill development and half instructional games, giving younger players an organized introduction to basketball fundamentals and team play.
Capacity will be very limited. Registrations will not be charged until the final Ballers group has been reviewed and confirmed.
Fall League
Grades 3-12, Games-Only Registration
$285 for seven guaranteed games
This registration guarantees seven professionally arranged games. Selected teams may qualify for additional playoff games, but playoffs are not guaranteed.
Team practices are arranged at the assigned coach’s discretion. Practices may be outdoors, at a coach-sourced location, or in available private gym space.
A separate coaching or gym-practice fee may apply when an additional practice option is offered. Any additional fee and practice arrangement will be disclosed before the family commits to that option.
Why Blue Chip is adjusting
The district has raised the community access price for St. Johns County school gyms by 94 percent. Even before this increase, the rates charged to Blue Chip were approximately twice what private schools charged for similar facilities.
Unless the policy changes, it will likely cause most, if not all, community use of these already underused public school facilities to stop. Families interested in basketball or volleyball, which are among the primary community uses for these gyms, may be forced to travel outside their community to participate.
Blue Chip will continue pursuing reasonable access to public school gyms while adapting portions of the program to private facilities, coach-arranged locations, and responsible outdoor options.
Blue Chip has adapted before
Blue Chip operated primarily through outdoor practices during its first four years and supported approximately three times as many teams as we currently have. We are confident that we can continue providing strong player development and professionally arranged games while adapting to the current facility situation.
Unfortunately, since that time, the number of public outdoor courts in northern St. Johns County has decreased, amenity-center court use has become more restrictive, and there are very few indoor private facilities in the county outside of several churches.
At the same time, our local middle school and academy gyms are empty almost every evening and weekend. There are more than a dozen indoor courts available within approximately a five-mile radius. These facilities were already underused by the community because of restrictions beyond the rental rate.
Based on more than a decade of experience working with local facilities, Our local school principals and staff have been amazing supporters and grateful for what the community can bring in revenue that helps cover the costs of school needs, but adding a 94 percent increase will likely bring community use close to zero. A telling sign is that we are now instructed to mail our payments to Palo Alto, CA instead of delivering payments directly to our community schools like we currently do and using an inflexible system that is only adding unnecessary operational overhead without considering actual practical operational use.
Community access to public gyms
Families deserve reasonable access to the public gyms their tax dollars support. Blue Chip respects the work required to operate and maintain these facilities, and we believe community organizations should have a reasonable and sustainable opportunity to use them.
If you have a relationship with a St. Johns County School Board member, district leader, or another person involved in district decisions, we respectfully encourage you to ask whether they are aware of this policy and share how it may affect your family and access to community sports programs. Please keep all communication courteous, factual, and focused on reasonable community access for youth programs.
What happens next
Blue Chip expects to release Fall registration as soon as the facility plan and final registration details are ready.
