Head Coach
The Head Coach is responsible for the overall development, performance, and behavior of the team. They serve as the face of the team and establish the tone for sportsmanship, effort, and discipline.
- Implement game strategies reinforcing fundamentals taught in IDP program
- Verbally direct and encourage players during play to facilitate better execution of offense, defense and intensity
- Manage player rotations, substitutions, fouls and timeouts
- Mentor players on basketball fundamentals, teamwork, and mindset
- Collaborate with Assistant and Bench Coaches for consistent team messaging
- Address any disciplinary or performance issues with players, coaches or parents
Assistant Coach
The Assistant Coach provides essential support to the Head Coach, focusing on individual skill development, tactical adjustments, and ensuring smooth operations during games.
- Assist in planning strategy
- Offer feedback to players.
- The coach board is continuously utilized to reinforce knowledge of plays and concepts
- Monitor player effort, energy, and body language
- Step in as acting Head Coach if the Head Coach is absent
- Supervise and facilitate the layup line warmup, ensuring player energy and discipline are high
Bench Coach
The Bench Coach manages the bench area during games, ensuring players are engaged, focused, and ready. This role is critical for maintaining team energy and organization off the court.
- Track substitution patterns as directed by the Head Coach
- Keep players on the bench engaged and positive
- Monitor player hydration, readiness, and injury status
- Assist in managing player expectations and emotional responses
- Relay important in-game feedback between coaches and players
- Help with post-game cool-down and debriefing
Statistician
The Statistician collects, organizes, and reports key game data to help coaches make informed decisions and track team/player development.
- Record stats such as points, rebounds, assists, steals, fouls, and turnovers
- Maintain organized, game-by-game stat sheets
- Provide summaries to coaches post-game or weekly
- Assist in identifying strengths and improvement areas through data
- Coordinate with the league or team platform if stats are officially submitted
Team Captain
The Team Captain is a player chosen for their leadership, accountability, and positive influence. They act as a bridge between the coaching staff and the team.
- 15 minutes before the game starts, coordinate team huddle and direct the pre-game warmup routine
- Encourage teammates
- Help implement coach expectations on the court
- Promote team unity and address peer conflicts constructively
Player
Players are the heart of the team. Each athlete is expected to contribute with effort, focus, and character on and off the court.
- Arrive to games at least 15 minutes before start for pregame huddle and warmup routine
- Bring energy, focus, and full effort to every game
- Show respect to coaches, teammates, opponents, and officials
- Stay engaged on the bench by supporting teammates and learning
- Slap hands with all teammates during substitutions and free throws
- Represent the team and program with integrity at all times
10-Minute Off-Court Warm-Up Routine (No Court Access Needed)
- Jog in place or around the area – 30 sec
- High knees – 30 sec
- Butt kicks – 30 sec
- Arm circles (forward/backward) – 30 sec each
- Leg swings (front-back, side-to-side) – 30 sec each leg
- Toe touches to overhead reach – 30 sec
- Walking lunges w/ torso twist – 30 sec
- Frankenstein kicks (straight leg kicks with opposite hand tap) – 30 sec
- Lateral lunges – 30 sec
- World’s Greatest Stretch (hip flexor lunge + T-spine rotation) – 1 min (30 sec per side)
