PLEASE UNDERSTAND How the Blue Chip Basketball Process Works
Blue Chip leagues are structured to allow all types of players and teams to register. Instead of being a team-only registration or a high-cost gym practice-only registration. We have multiple paths of entry into league play.
Here are the typical scenarios to consider that your independently registered player looking for team placement may enter the league as a player:
- On a preformed team registered with less than the minimum size roster (Typically 10) that needs players to fill out their roster.
- On a team with a volunteer coach with a player looking to build a team.
- On a team with a paid staff coach who practices in a gym (There is an additional cost for these teams over the normal outdoor practice registration) – staff coach availability is based on who is currently on staff for the season and they usually will have 3-4 teams assigned. Additional cost varies based on gym and coach.
Sometimes there are a few other scenarios that can occur such as a high school team of friends who enter without a set coach who will have a parent supervise them during games and may be looking for a few players to add.
For the general registration, the fee only includes games. Practices are at the total discretion of the volunteer or staff coach. The coaches are not paid to do practices so if a coach decides to do zero or 5 practices a week it is up to them to offer the volunteer work they want to do. If you want to assist or start coaching a team, we always need volunteers and even experienced paid staff, so start the process here to VOLUNTEER.
So if you want a lot of practices or fewer practices make sure to pay attention to the activities in the league during your season, so when your player plays in future seasons they can either be included in a future performed team with your preferred coach or rank higher in the draft.
We do our best to arrange divisions of balanced teams, but this is a very competitive league and the goal is to win. We ask league coaches, players and parents to follow our code of conduct and philosophy but since we only truly influence a relatively small portion of the participants and there can be blowouts just as there are in the NBA (which is designed with parity in mind)
The Draft Process
Independently registered players looking for a team will be chosen by coaches looking for players to fill out their rosters. So if you do not fill out this form then you will be randomly assigned and if there are no spots left or you are not chosen we may send you to the developmental program or issue a refund for this season.
A coach with no players will start in the first round, a coach with 4 players will start in the 5th round etc.
